The Mirena is an intra-uterine contraceptive device (IUCD).
It is a small plastic, T-shaped device containing a progesterone medication that is placed into a woman’s womb. It is an excellent long-term contraceptive option, especially for women who do not want to or cannot take oestrogen-based medications. It is also useful for heavy or irregular periods. Once placed, it can be left in place for up to 5 years.
Placement of the device is straightforward and Dr McDonnell is trained and experienced in the insertion and removal of Mirenas and other IUCDs. If you would like further information, please make an appointment to discuss it.
